Update: The brother of Jeremy Maclin (undisclosed) told the Sporting News Monday that Jeremy is "fine," and that the Maclin camp will make an announcement about his health situation on Tuesday. No formal annoucement has been made as of yet, but it appears that the Eagles are also leaking rumors that they expect to get Maclin back relatively soon.
Update: Yahoo! Sports' Michael Silver reports the Eagles have been asking for a pair of second-round picks in exchange for CB Asante Samuel. Coach Andy Reid statED Tuesday, "It's what I told him initially and what I've told you, he's on our football team. That's what he is." Basically Reid is saying no one has made an offer the Birds are willing to accept right now, but expect more rumors as the preseason continues.
Wide receiver Steve Smith visited Giants training camp this week for a physical, as the team evaluated whether to bring him back. Giants coach Tom Coughlin opined that Smith was "a ways away."
Today, the Eagles announced that they have signed Smith to a 1-year contract, which a league source said guarantees the wideout $2 million, and gives him a chance to mayube double that if he reaches some lofty incentives.
BETHLEHEM --- Michael Vick is ready to roll, even if the Eagles haven't had their normal prep time for a preseason opener, as they turn on the lights tomorrow night at the Linc against the Ravens.
"Football is back. This what it's all about. We all get to go out there tomorrow and do something we love to do, and we enjoy doing ... We're all excited about it," Vick said after the Eagles' morning walkthrough, their last workout before they bus down to Philadelphia tomorrow from Bethlehem.
Update: The Philadelphia Eagles signed WR Steve Smith, formerly of the Giants, to a one-year, $4 million contract with $2 million guaranteed. This is a huge move, as many believed the Giants would retain Smith. This should be interesting as the Giants doctors were convinced Smith would miss half the season, while the Eagles doctors apparently believe Smith will possibly be ready by Week 1.
Update: ESPN is reporting that the players will reportedly receive 48 percent of "all revenue" under the framework of the labor deal currently being discussed. NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith insists the players only saw 53 percent of the revenues under the previous agreement, though 60 percent is the number most commonly cited.
Update: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports on Twitter that all players with at least four years of service time will be unrestricted free agents under the labor agreement currently being discussed. This would impact in excess of 500 current players and would potentially lead to a free agent frenzy once a deal is reached.
