Update: Kyle Lohse's spot in St. Louis' rotation is in danger, according to MLB.com.
Fantasy Impact: Jeff Suppan would be in position to take Lohse's spot in the rotation. Lohse has an ERA over 7.00 this year.
Update: The St. Louis Cardinals have moved thirdbaseman David Freese to the 60-day disabled list.
Fantasy Impact: The Cards needed the roster spot for Kyle Lohse who is returning. Freese is a question mark for spring training next season.
Update: Jason LaRue (C) for the Cardinals was sidelined due to an injury sustained during a bench clearing brawl. It is unclear when LaRue will be back as he suffered a concussion and bruised ribs. The fight took place between the Cardinals and the Reds, and disciplinary action may be on its way.
Fantasy Impact: It is difficult to see how the brawl started, but MLB commissioners will be viewing tapes in order to see who is at fault. In the meanwhile, players have been lost to injury and some may be lost soon to disciplinary action.
Update: In this year's trade market, a lot of teams are trying to drop contracts, and that has led to some convoluted agreements. In a three-team deal, the St. Louis Cardinals get pitcher Jake Westbrook from the Cleveland Indians. The Cardinals then sent Ryan Ludwig (OF) to the Padres and as of now looks like they will send at least one prospect to Cleveland.
Update: Russel Martin admits that his right thumb has been bothering him for some time now,and after leaving last night's game against St. Louis with the thumb badly swollen, he will not start today's game.Martin does say that he will be available to pinch hit and that he doesn't think he will need to make a trip to the DL.
Update: Manny Ramirez will not play today against the St.Louis Cardinals. Ramirez agitated his bothersome calf once again in last nights 8-4 loss to the Cards. After coming off the DL recently for a sore hamstring,Ramirez is once again dealing with an injury that sidelined him earlier this year.
Update:General manager John Mozeliak won't set a timetable for the return of P Brad Penny to the Cardinals for the 2010 season. Penny suffered a setback with his rehab just before the All-Star break and Mozeliak say's,"I would say that he will pitch again this season, but eight weeks wrong today, it doesn't serve me well to try and guess again."
Update:Ubaldo Jimenez became the first pitcher in the National League since Greg Maddux back in 1988 to win 15 games before the All-Star break today as he allowed only three hits and one run over eight innings today in the Rockies 4-2 victory over the St.Louis Cardinals. Jimenez was dominant the entire afternoon, striking out 6 and only walking two.
Update:While running on a treadmill as part of his rehab from a calf injury, Cardinals OF Ryan Ludwick aggravated the injury to his calf that has kept him out of the Cards lineup since June 26th.Because of the setback the club has now decided to put Ludwick on the 15 day DL retroactive to the 26th.
Fantasy Impact:Ludwick is having a solid,if unspectacular year, and should probably be stashed on your DL until he returns. With his power potential(11 HR's) and run production (42 RBI) Ludwick is a nice number three OF in most fantasy leagues.
Update: After catching three games in four days while in Triple A Reno this past week, Arizona C Miguel Montero is showing no ill effects with his surgically repaired knee and was today taken off the DL and will be available to the Diamondbacks this evening when they host the St. Louis Cardinals.
