Update: Benches cleared in Wednesday's game between the Washington Nationals and the Florida Marlins when Nats' OF Nyjer Morgan charged the mound at Florida's SP Chris Volstad. Volstad pegged Morgan earlier in the game and in Morgan's next at-bat Volstad threw behind him. Morgan then charged the mound and connected with a left hand to the face of Volstad before getting clotheslined by Marlins' 1B Gaby Sanchez. There were a grand total of six ejections including both managers.
Update: Florida Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan underwent successful surgery on his left knee Wednesday. Coghlan will miss the remainder of the 2010 season.
Fantasy Impact: Coghlan hit 5 HRs this season and was a reliable player for the Fish. He is hoping to be back at full health when spring training opens.
Update: Chris Coghlan (LF) of the Florida Marlins will undergo knee surgery and may miss the rest of the season. The funny thing is that the injury was sustained during a victory celebration, as he was trying to pie a teammate.
Fantasy Impact: Coghlan was the 2009 NL Rookie of the Year, and he will be sorely missed. Regardless of the circumstances around his injury, he still got hurt, and will still have to watch his team play from the bench. The Marlins have lost a great fielder and a good bat.
Update: At 6 foot 7 inches tall, it is surprising that pitcher Josh Johnson of the Marlins is easily overlooked. With big pitchers like Jimenez or Halladay, people sometimes forget that one of the best pitchers in the game is the hurler from the Marlins. Actually, according to pure statistics, Johnson is the best pitcher in the game right now, with his numbers surpassing both Jimenez and Halladay.
Update: Losing 10-4 is generally not the best of times to look for humor, but the Florida Marlins had to get a little chuckle out of one moment in last night's loss to Arizona. OF Mike Stanton was chasing a fly ball by Kelly Johnson when he leapt, hit the bullpen gate, which opened and then scared RP Leo Nunez, who was sitting in a folding chair near the gate. Nunez tumbled backwards, head over hindquarters. Jorge Cantu at least got a laugh out of it after the game while watching replays.
Update: Mat Latos was only able to manage 5 2/3 innings today in Florida in front of family and friends, but even with his short performance he was able to lower his ERA to a very respectable 2.85,allowing one run on five hits.Latos (9-4) had his day shortened because he was uncharacteristically wild, walking 4 in his time on the mound.
Update: Since June 19th Will Venable of the San Diego Padres has been producing RBI's at an alarming rate. After hitting a game-winning two run homer today to lift the Pads to a series sweeping 4-2 victory over the home Florida Marlins Venable now has 19 RBI's in his last six games.
Update: Everth Cabrera was taken off the DL before tonight's game against the Florida Martins and will start the game at shortstop for the San Diego Padres.Cabrera has been sidelined with a sore hamstring for about a month.
Fantasy Impact: Cabrera is worth a spot for those who are in need of speed, but that's about all you can really expect from him, which makes him an N.L. only play at best.
Update: Florida Marlins' OF Mike Stanton went 3-for-5 in his MLB debut. He also scored two runs in the game.
Update: The N.Y. Mets own baseball's best home record after this afternoon's 7-6 comeback victory over the Florida marlins. The Mets, who trailed at times today by 5-0 and 6-3 scores, took the lead on rookie 1B Ike Davis' sharply hit double play ground ball in the eighth inning, after OF Jeff Francoeur hit a game-tieing three run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Mets now have a 22-9 at home this season, with two eight game winning streaks thrown in for good measure.
