Update: Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow will be shut down in the near future in an attempt to limit the amount of work he puts in for the remainder of the year.
Fantasy Impact: Morrow has been an innings eater this season, and he had pitched 143 1/3 innings this year which is double his career high. Morrow will have one last outing and then be shutdown.
Update: In a five player trade, the Atlanta Braves picked up Alex Gonzalez (SS) and the Toronto Blue-Jays came away with Yunel Escobar (SS) and Jo-Jo Reyes (LHP).
Update:Shaun Marcum was seen long tossing the ball before this evening's game against the Boston Red Sox. Marcum, who has been on the DL since July 2nd with elbow inflammation, will hopefully throw a bullpen session on Saturday and be set to return to his rotation spot on Sunday July 18th when the Blue Jays play the Baltimore Orioles.
Fantasy Impact:Hopefully you have had Marcum safely stashed on your DL waiting for his return. He has been rock solid this season for the most part and should be a solid number three starter for fantasy teams in the second half.
Update: Some career days are welcome, others are best forgotten. Today was a day to forget for Toronto Blue Jays P Ricky Romero. In a very abbreviated 2 2/3 inning stint Romero (6-4) gave up a career high 8 runs on seven hits and two walks. All eight runs were scored in the third inning, the biggest blow being OF Brett Gardner's grand slam home run.
Update:The New York Yankees defeated the Toronto Blue Jays today 11-3,led by Brett Gardner who hit his first career grand slam in an 11 run third inning that took 37 minutes to complete. Gardner actually had two hits in the marathon inning, leading off the bottom of the third with a single.Alex Rodriguez drove in four runs for the Bombers and Andy Pettitte(10-2) got the win with six innings of three run ball.
Update: With SP Shaun Marcum on the 15 day DL due to elbow inflammation,Marc Rzepczynski has been recalled by the Toronto Blue Jays to fill in for Marcum until his hopeful return in two weeks. Rzepczynski was up with the Blue Jays last season and accounted himself well with a 2-4 record and a 3.67 ERA.
Update:0-5 with an 11.35 ERA are not the kind of numbers a major league pitcher wants to see next to his name at the end of any month. But those were the numbers that stared at Yankees P A.J. Burnett at the end of June. Today during his first start of July he came away with much better digits. He starts the seventh month of the year with 6 2/3 innings with no earned runs,4 hits, and six strikeouts.
Update: On Thursday Shaun Marcum lasted only four innings and had to be pulled from his start. This afternoon the Toronto Blue Jays placed their 28 year-old SP on the 15 day DL with elbow inflammation in his right(throwing)elbow.Marcum has undergone Tommy John surgery in the past on his right elbow but this is not thought to be related and nothing more than a simple injury at this time.
Update:Through seven innings this afternoon Javier Vazquez (5-5) had been nearly spotless, yet he left the game trailing 2-0 despite only giving up one hit.A 2 run homer by Vernon Wells in the sixth inning was Vazquez; only hit to the Blue Jays to go along with the nine batters he struck out. Then the Yankees came to their hurlers rescue with a four run uprising in the top of the eighth ,led by Robinson Cano's two run single, that gave them the lead for a 4-2 victory.
Update:Ricky Romero of the Toronto Blue Jays followed his ugly performance earlier this week against the Angels with a complete game victory over the Baltimore Orioles today.Romero(5-2) led the jays to a 6-1 victory after giving up a first inning RBI single to Nick Markakis, allowing only five more hits and striking out seven, to lead the jays to series sweep over the O's.
