According to ESPN's Pierre Lebrun, New Jersey Devils' captain Jamie Langenbrunner has been traded to the Dallas Stars. In exchange, the New Jersey Devils receive a conditional Third round pick. Langenbrunner spent almost eight seasons in Dallas after they drafted him in 1993. He was traded and has been in New Jersey for the past 8 and a half seasons.
Yahoo! Sports is reporting the Dallas Stars have agreed to two-year deals with defenseman Matt Niskanen, and forward James Neal. Niskanen is projected to make $1.5 million this season and Neal will be making $2.25 million. Both players are still only 23 years old.
Update: DallasNews.com reports that Dallas Stars forward and captain Brendan Morrow will use a knee brace that will help him return to top form after recovering from ACL surgery in 2008.
Fantasy Impact: Last season Morrow was well off the pace he set in his last full season which was 74 points in 07-08. He had 46 points in 76 games last season, and he says part of it is playing uncomfortably with a weak brace. This season he has found one he likes and with it confidence that he can get his game back on track.
Update: Stars.NHL.com reports that defenseman Matt Niskanen looks to take what he learned from a tough season last season, to improve his game for this season.
Fantasy Impact: Niskanen worked hard this off season to be better prepared for his fourth NHL season. Niskanen has great potential in being a fast moving, puck moving defenseman who is very good on his skates. The Stars hope that this season improves on his past performances.
Update: Hendrickshockey.net report that the Dallas Stars have invited free agent forward Jonathan Cheechoo to to tryout for the Stars at the teams training camp.
Fantasy Impact: After break out year in the 05-06 season scoring 93 points, Cheechoo's points total has steadily declined and cause him to fall out of favor with the San Jose Sharks as well as the Ottawa Senators. He hopes to find his scoring touch again and Impress enough for the Stars to offer him an NHL roster spot for the upcoming season.
Update: DallasNews.com reports that Nicklas Grossman has signed to a two-year contract worth $3.25 million. This extension will keep him in a Dallas Stars uniform until the 2011-2012 season.
Fantasy Impact: Grossman is 25 and looks to be part of the youth movement that is now taking place in Dallas. He is a defenseman that isn't afraid to block shots or use his body and looks to gain more ice time as he matures.
Update: The Detroit Free Press reports that long-time Dallas Star Mike Modano has signed with the Detroit Red Wings. He signs with Detroit after his contract with Dallas expired after 09-10 season where he was contemplating retirement.
Update: Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com is reporting that Center Brad Richards, who led the Dallas Stars with 91 points this season, will resume offseason training in five weeks after having arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn labrum in his hip.
Fantasy Impact: Richards, who is rehabbing in New York, said he'll return to his full offseason program in 8 to 10 weeks. I would expect Richards to make a full recover in plenty of time for training camp in September.
Update: C Steve Ott scored three goals for his first career hat trick last night as the Stars beat the Sharks 5-1. Ott scored just about every way possible, with a short-handed, an even-strength, and a power play goal. LW Loui Eriksson and C Brian Sutherby added a goal and an assist each, and G Marty Turco had 29 saves.
Update: The Dallas Morning News is reporting that Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen will start in Tuesday's game against San Jose. This will be Lehtonen's first start since back on March 6th when he was torchedfor six goals on 34 shots against the Penguins.
Fantasy Impact: Lehtonen is the future starter for the Stars, so it makes sense that they are looking to give him more playing time down the stretch.
