Update: The Toronto Blue Jays traded away their unquestioned ace in Roy Halladay this winter but they may have someone ready to step right into his place in their rotation.Ricky Romero threw 4 innings of shutout ball today, allowing only 2 hits against the Atlanta Braves. For the spring Romero has now thrown 9 innings and allowed only one run.Romero walked 4 continuing a problem he had last season as a rookie, but all 4 runners were erased on ground ball double plays.Romero was 13-9 for the Blue jays in 2009.
Fantasy Impact: Romero ended the 2009 season on a bit of a downhill slide, but that was to be expected. Because of the way he ended the year most people will forget how well he began the year. His draft value will almost certainly make him available in the late rounds of most mixed leagues and with the experience he gained last season, as well as his ability to keep the ball in the park, he could be a nice sleeper pick.
