The New York Islanders have claimed veteran goaltender Evgeni Nabokov off waivers, but is apparantly refusing to join the team. Prior to entering waivers, Nabokov and The Detroit Red Wings had agreed to a one year deal barring he clear waivers. The Wings were in need of a goaltender with Chris Osgood needing hernia surgery and Jimmy Howard slowed by a bruised knee. The Islanders are third to last in the NHL in points and currently are playing two rookie goaltenders while Rick DiPietro sits out due to illness.
