Update:Tim Bogar of the Boston Red Sox say's that 3B Mike Lowell is "a natural fit" at first base. Bogar ,who is the Sox infield instructor, say's that Lowell has taken to the position nicely."His big thing was working on picking balls in the dirt and footwork stuff. We did that a couple of days. He’s a natural at it. Great hands. Two days we’ve hit him buckets of balls at first base with low throws and stuff. He’s just professional." Lowell will make his spring debut on Monday against the Baltimore Orioles and it is likely that the Red Sox will try to showcase him for other teams.
Fantasy Impact:If Lowell gets traded and can find a regular gig somewhere he could be a very nice sleeper pick for some lucky fantasy owner. The surgically repaired thumb that kept him from being traded to the Texas Rangers this past winter seems to be fully healed. Follow his spring AB's closely. If he stays in Boston he will be Adrian Beltre's caddy, as well as spell Kevin Youkilis occasionally. But as a regular he could still have some pop in his bat to make him a nice value pick.
