According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "Brewers general manager Doug Melvin quickly squashed speculation Tuesday that J.J. Hardy was going through waivers and would be claimed by the Boston Red Sox, who need a shortstop.
"We haven't even asked waivers on J.J.," said Melvin.
For trades to be made after July 31, players have to clear waivers. Otherwise, if a team claims a player, it can try to work out a trade before the player is withdrawn.
