Update: The Tampa Bay Rays are almost certain to pick up Carl Crawford's $10 mil option for 2010, but then the hard part begins. Mark Topkin of TampaBay.com says the Rays feel like they can win in '10 and that Crawford is an integral part of the team. However, if the Rays and Crawford can't come to a contract agreement or extension, they would have to consider trading him as next years trade deadline approaches. The Rays would have to be very careful if that scenario played out since Crawford is a very popular player in Tampa and the Rays need public support for their new stadium.
Fantasy Impact:After last years numbers, it is probably safe to say that Crawford is close to a top 10 player in fantasy.Add that to the fact that the Rays and Crawford don't sound like they will sign a contract anytime soon and he will be playing for his first free agent contract next year. Walk years bring out some extraordinary performances from many players and to think of what Crawford might do in that situation should make any fantasy owner drool.
